Discover Big Island Bliss at Hale Malolo!

Whether you're here for relaxation or exploration--or both! --you'll love your stay at Hale Malolo.
Located at the end of a tree-lined lane and nestled right against the eco-rich rainforest, this classic Hawaiian stilt-house is a truly tropical escape. By day you can explore the friendly neighborhood and get a taste of the "real Hawaii", enjoy the sunshine in the large backyard, and delight in the fruit trees that surround the house-- depending on the season we have avocados, bananas, guavas, papayas, pineapple, and mangoes! Then, when the sun sets and stars begin to appear in the sky, listen to the jungle come alive with the music of its many inhabitants. The private, lush surroundings of Hale Malolo make it a place to get away from it all without being too far from some of The Big Island's premiere attractions.

Hale Malolo is located in the private Hawaiian Beaches subdivision which is five miles outside of quaint Pahoa town with its numerous restaurants and shops, and about 30 minutes from historic downtown Hilo and the International Airport. Airport pickups are available. We are 2 miles from stunning oceanfront parks, and only 15 miles from Kaimu black sand beach. If you want to visit the world's most active volcano (and of course you do!) we are about 25 minutes from Volcano National Park and even closer to the flow at Kalapana. Other area attractions include the Ahalanui family park and volcanically heated warm ponds for world-class soaking, the Kapoho tide-pools for safe, fascinating snorkeling, and several nearby farmers' markets where you'll find colorful produce, crafts, and characters galore. You can even take a scenic 2-3 hour drive and visit the white sand beaches and tourist attractions of Kohala-Kona!

Your ohana (family) will fit comfortably in three bedrooms (master with half-bath and California king, second with a queen and twin, third with one queen) and 2.5 bathrooms (including one "al fresco" on the ground level). A fully equipped kitchen lets you brew fresh, complimentary local coffee, make smoothies or daiquiris with seasonal organic fruit picked right off of our trees, and enjoy your own home-cooked island meals. Our open kitchen, breakfast bar, dining room and living space look out over the garden from a huge picture window; other jalousie windows open easily to let in the perfumed breeze. In addition to the local families, vacation rentals, and retirees our "neighbors" include many animals: charming native birds, gecko, wild pig, mongoose, chicken, and the chirping coqui tree frogs. We enjoy the natural noises, but also provide earplugs free of charge, to ensure you a good night's sleep.

Hale Malolo, "House of Restfulness", is a convenient and affordable utopian retreat. Stay here for a week or two, and you might not ever want to leave!

We had the opportunity to stay with owners Brenda and Pat as they were moving into this wonderful cottage. The bed was so comfortable, and it was really easy to get up in the morning and go for a run around the neighborhood (there is a very nice loop run; I hope they provide a map of this running route to all renters). I loved the tropical sounds at night, and the feral roosters reminding us that it was time to awake. From this location, we had day trips to the ocean, to Hilo and the farmers' markets, and to Volcanoes National Park. The yard and house are well maintained. You do have to climb stairs to get into the house, so this would be an awkward rental for a person unable to handle stairs. It is a very private location; you won't see your neighbors until you pull out of the driveway. The photos I see of the house on this website are spot-on. Fundamentally, this is a location to return to after a visit to the wonders of the Big Island. Come back, shower, and then prepare your meal,

My family (stayed together with my wife & a nearly 5 years old kid). The house is comfortable and clean, weather was really good (sunny day + rainy night), our kid love to swim in the warm pond (just about 20 mins from the house), beautiful volcano landscape, we enjoyed 10 relax summer days in Big island and hope that we can visit again in the future.
